Community Groups call for more public housing

Community Groups from around the old Fish Market are calling for the land to be used for public housing not for private housing.  Pyrmont Action, Friends of Ultimo and Hands off Glebe have combined to hold a rally at the Fish Market to call for the NSW Government to be more proactive in establishing public housing.

In a recent document the NSW Planning said that the following categories of housing will be excluded: public, social, build to rent and affordable.

People on low incomes should be considered in this project rather than pandering to the wealthy few.

The land that will be freed up by the arrival of the new Fish Market should be devoted to public use rather than private residential towers of massive height.

“We have two slogans for the NSW Government: ‘defend and extend public housing’ and ‘public land for public housing’.”  Said Denis Doherty spokesperson for groups.
