Don’t touch Wentworth Park Rd, Glebe

Media release Saturday, 17 June 2023

“We welcome the announcement that the Franklyn Street public housing estate will be saved from demolition and eviction, but we are very disappointed that NSW Housing Minister Rose Jackson has chosen to continue with the previous LNP Government’s appalling plan for 82 Wentworth Park Road”, said Denis Doherty from Hands off Glebe.

“The plan for 82 Wentworth Park Road is economically, environmentally, and socially deficient.  It will provide a small increase of 26 bedrooms at a cost of $22 million, meaning each bedroom will cost almost a $1 million each!”

“We have provided alternate plans for the site which include infill and renovation which are much cheaper and more sensitive to the potential negative social and environmental impacts,” he said.

“Hands off Glebe, with the support of the Glebe Society and Action for Public Housing, will continue working to stop the demolition and evictions at 82 Wentworth Park Road,” Mr Doherty declared.

Today we will be demanding Housing Justice at a rally at 1pm in Town Hall Square.
